A Chinese scientist has named 16 newly discovered spider species after songs by famous singer Jay Chou. Professor Mi Xiaoqi from Tongji University in China shared this in a paper published in the Zoological Research journal. The paper, released last month in December, went viral on the microblogging platform Weibo, where it has been viewed by more than 26 million people since last Wednesday. Following the paper’s viral success, users dubbed the 44-year-old professor as the “ultimate fan” of the singer. In an interview with local media, Mi explained that naming the spiders after Jay Chou’s songs made the process quicker and easier, ensuring no names were repeated. He also mentioned that he enjoys Jay Chou’s music in his everyday life.
