China and Australia will grant citizens of each country multiple-entry visas for tourism and business for up to five years, China’s Foreign Ministry said in another sign of improving ties between the two countries.
The visa deal is expected to stabilize bilateral relations following frosty relations following Prime Minister Li Qiang’s major visit to Australia earlier this week.
Beginning last year, after three years of COVID-19 restrictions that closed its international borders, China eased entry requirements for visitors from several countries to facilitate business and leisure travel.
During his visit to Australia, Li said China would also include Australia in its visa waiver program, which allows Australians to visit the country for up to 15 days without a visa.
