In the auspicious holiday for meat lovers, the price of chicken in Lahore has seen a steady decline, with the price dropping from $15 to $377 per kilogram.
According to the Pakistan Poultry Association, prices have come down significantly from $78 per kilogram earlier this month.
The drop in chicken prices over the past two weeks has brought much-needed relief to consumers who can now buy chicken at cheaper prices.
On the other hand, the price of a dozen eggs in Punjab, the capital of the province, remained stable at $251. The stability of the egg price provides some comfort to consumers who have struggled with high inflation in recent months.
Adding to the positive news, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported a 0.34 percent drop in sentiment price index inflation (SPI) for the week ending May 23, 2024. offering economic relief.
According to PBS, of the 51 key items monitored, 12 items increased in price, 18 items decreased and 21 items were stable for the week. Lower chicken prices and stable egg prices are expected to provide relief to consumers facing significant financial difficulties.
Economists speculate that the decline in chicken prices can be attributed to improvements in various supply chains, favorable production conditions and strategic market interventions.
However, they cautioned that the market is volatile and subject to rapid changes based on supply and demand dynamics.
