Islamabad: Pakistan Red Crescent Society Chairman Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari attended the opening session of the 34th International Conference Preparatory Meeting organized by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Geneva. For an international conference held in Pakistan, he presented a proposal on behalf of the Pakistan Red Army, focusing on the organization’s global humanitarian law, the Geneva Conventions, climate change adaptation and disaster preparedness.
During his visit, Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari also met with the newly elected President of IFRC, Mrs. Kate Forbes. The two leaders discussed plans for the 34th International Conference focusing on proposals made by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society.
President Forbes praised the leadership of Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari in reducing the suffering of vulnerable people in Pakistan through the Red Crescent Society and promised to develop partnerships to develop humanitarian services in innovative ways in the future.
Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari, President congratulated IFRC on the successful completion of his first 100 days in office. Ms. Forbes admitted that her priorities on the first day were national community development, climate change, youth participation, fair distribution of resources, governance and leadership, accountability and transparency.
In addition, Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari introduced initiatives related to environmental protection and sustainability, measures to combat climate change and the Solar and Solar Initiative. Also, special importance is given to the active participation of youth in various activities.
The two leaders exchanged souvenirs symbolizing the spirit of cooperation with humanity. Chief Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari left his visit in the guest book.
