The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday announced its plan to build the country’s largest IT park in Islamabad.
Amid intense anticipation, the CDA has given approval to set up a sprawling IT park spread over an area of 3.3 acres in the heart of Islamabad’s G-10 sector.
The authority emphasized the strategic importance of the effort, saying that careful planning had already been done and a dedicated plot of land had been secured for the monumental project.
The upcoming Islamabad IT Park is to be developed through joint efforts under the Public Private Partnership model, which symbolizes the convergence of government vision and private sector expertise.
Envisioned as a bustling hub of tech prowess, the park is set to include an impressive one million square feet covered area that will accommodate an estimated 5-6 thousand freelancers, startups and software houses.
Talking about the multifaceted utility of the IT park, CDA officials clarified that it will serve as a vibrant ecosystem conducive to innovation and growth.
Among its myriad features, the park will boast state-of-the-art facilities including a library, exhibition spaces to showcase IT products, as well as dedicated zones for research centres, conference halls and meeting rooms.
The CDA further clarified that the financial burden of the construction of the Islamabad IT Park will be borne exclusively by private entities, underscoring the common ethos of the initiative.
As part of the agreement, private companies will lease space in the park to set up their IT offices, boosting economic activity and job creation in the growing technology sector.
In a forward-looking gesture, the CDA revealed that upon completion, the operational control of the IT park will be transferred to the authority after 15 years, signifying a long-term commitment to look after Pakistan’s technology infrastructure.
