One person was killed and 10 injured after a cable car collided with a broken pole in Turkey’s southern Antalya province on Friday, the Interior Ministry said Saturday.
As of 5:23 pm, a total of 24 cabins were airborne, and 16 hours later, more than 60 people were trapped in the remaining nine airborne cabins, and 112 people were rescued, said the ministry.
The head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency Okay Memis told reporters at the scene that no one awaiting rescue was seriously injured or in good condition. He said they aim to complete the rescue operation by sunset.
In a statement on the social media platform X, the Ministry of Interior announced that seven helicopters and more than 500 rescue workers are conducting rescue operations.
A series of videos released by the Ministry of Interior showed rescuers climbing into the cabin on safety ropes.
According to the website, the cable car has 36 cabins for six people each. It takes an average of nine minutes to reach Tunektepe facilities with a panoramic view of Antalya.
