A new study has revealed that asthma in children is linked to memory issues and may increase the risk of developing dementia in the future.
The study found that children with asthma performed worse on memory tests compared to those without the condition. Researchers suggest that the decline in memory could lead to long-term effects and potentially increase the risk of developing conditions like dementia.
An analysis of samples from 473 children who were monitored for two years showed that children who developed asthma at an early age experienced slower memory development.
Simona Getty, the lead author of the study from the University of California, Davis, emphasized that this research highlights asthma as a potential cause of memory problems in children. She noted that growing evidence suggests that not only asthma, but also diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic conditions, could increase the risk of brain-related issues in children.
