Amy Robach opened up about her drinking habits while talking about her battle with breast cancer.
The 50-year-old TV personality spoke about the disease during her iHeartRadio podcast Amy and TJ with co-host and husband T.J Holmes and explained her relationship with alcohol as she embarked on a “2024 dry year.”
Her explanation comes after she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer after undergoing an on-air mammogram in October 2013.
After a double mastectomy and eight rounds of chemotherapy, Amy completed her final round of treatment in April 2014.

“I knew that last year was an anomaly. It wasn’t a year that I hope will ever happen again, but it weighs heavily on me. Not only in terms of the amount of alcohol I’ve consumed, but also what I know about alcohol and cancer – and specifically breast cancer,” she said,
When T.J asked why she didn’t want to stop drinking, Amy replied that she “never drank to mask the pain.”
“I always drink to enhance the joy. I love that little extra kick. I love to laugh. It’s probably my favorite thing in life. So when you have that drink in your hand, you laugh a little bit more,” she explained.
Amy concluded: “That has always been part of what I love about the drinking experience. I’d say it’s just that little bit of extra support.”
