Algeria has finally opened the third largest mosque in the world and the largest in Africa, ahead of the holy month of Ramazan, according to Al Jazeera.
Due to political unrest in the country, the inauguration of the mosque took several days. The Grand Mosque of Algiers was inaugurated on Monday by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Djamaa El-Djazair, as the locals refer to it, and can accommodate up to 120,000 worshipers who can pray at once. At 265 meters (869 ft) tall, it has the tallest minaret in the world. The only mosques larger than it are located in Madinah and Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

After seven years of construction, the sprawling modernist building was completed on approximately 70 acres, featuring marble and wood elements along with Arabic and North African architectural elements.
It even has a library big enough to hold a million volumes and a helipad. The massive structure was built by a Chinese company and reportedly cost around 900 million dollars.
