ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Prof. Ahsan Iqbal has said that water security is essential for building Pakistan’s climate resilience, warning that the country faces the twin challenges of climate change and the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by India.
Speaking at a dinner reception hosted in honour of a visiting bipartisan U.S. congressional delegation and leading American business leaders in Islamabad, the minister stressed that water should never be used as a political weapon.
He called for greater investment in water-efficient technologies, innovation and modern resource management to safeguard Pakistan’s agriculture, strengthen food security and improve the country’s resilience to future climate-related shocks.
Prof. Ahsan Iqbal said effective water management is vital to ensuring sustainable development and addressing the growing challenges posed by climate change. He emphasized the need for long-term planning and technological solutions to protect the country’s water resources and agricultural sector.
