The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development have announced that single-use styrofoam products will be banned in Abu Dhabi from June 1.
This ban applies to cups, lids, plates, beverage containers and food products for immediate consumption.
Khaleej Times reports that the initiative to ban single-use Styrofoam is a continuation of Abu Dhabi’s single-plastic policy and supports the Year of Sustainability goals.
Abu Dhabi’s single-plastic policy was launched in May 2020. According to the policy, a ban on the sale of single-use plastic bags at all retailers came into effect from June 1, 2022, resulting in a 95 percent reduction from these bags.
