After testing a man in Germany who said he had received 217 COVID-19 injections, scientists found his immune system was in perfect condition.
It is not yet known how this kind of hyper vaccination can affect the immune system. According to several experts, the immune cells would lose their effectiveness because they would become accustomed to the antigens.
The individual’s immune system is fully functional, according to a case report published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases.
According to researchers, more than 60 million people in Germany have been vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2, most of them more than once.
A team from Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nurnberg (FAU) in Germany evaluated a man who claims to have had 217 vaccinations for personal reasons. They added that 134 of these vaccinations had verified evidence.
“We learned about his case through newspaper articles,” said FAU’s Kilian Schober.
He further reveals that “then we contacted him and invited him to undergo various tests in Erlangen (a city in Germany). He was very interested in it.”
Immunizations involve components of the pathogen or blueprint that the cells of the vaccinated individual can use to produce these harmful elements on their own.
Thanks to these antigens, the immune system acquires the ability to identify the true pathogen in case of subsequent infection. This allows him to react faster and more forcefully.
The study aimed to investigate the effects of frequent exposure of the immune system to a specific antigen.
According to Kilian Schober, “This may be a case of a chronic infection such as HIV or hepatitis B that has periodic flare-ups.”
He said “There is an indication that certain types of immune cells, known as T-cells, then become fatigued, resulting in them releasing fewer pro-inflammatory mediators”.
Still, the researchers said the study offers no evidence that this is the case.
Schober said “we were also able to collect blood samples ourselves when the man received additional vaccinations during the study at his insistence. We were able to use these samples to determine exactly how the immune system responded to the vaccination.”
This person is reported to have a high number of T-effector cells against SARS-CoV-2. According to scientists, they act as the body’s defenders against the virus.
These effector cells showed no signs of fatigue for the researchers. They performed as well as individuals in the control group who received the usual dose of vaccines.
One of the lead authors of the study named Katharina Kocher explained that “the number of memory cells in our test case was as high as in the control group”.
