LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) have entered into an agreement to adjust the seat for the general elections scheduled for February 8, The News reported citing sources.
Negotiations between the PML-N and the IPP have been going on for a long time but no decision has been reached yet as the IPP has demanded more seats than the former could offer, sources said.
They said PML-N has now agreed to field IPP in seven National Assembly seats and 11 provincial seats against IPP’s demand for 13 NA seats and 22 provincial seats.
Party sources said that IPP chief patron Jahangir Khan Tareen will be accommodated in NA-149 Multan seat instead of Lodhran. However, Tareen will still contest the election from NA-155 Lodhran seat where his opponent would be PML-N candidate Siddique Baloch, sources said.
An official announcement in this regard is likely on Tuesday (today). Party sources said that Aleem Khan will be adjusted for NA-117 Lahore, Auon Chaudhry for NA-128 Lahore, Nauman Langrial from Sahiwal, Amir Kiyani Islamabad, Ghulam Sarwar Khan Rawalpindi and Engineer Gul Asghar will be adjusted for National Assembly seat Khushab.
However, according to sources, Firdous Ashiq, Humayun Akhtar and Rana Nazir will not be accommodated. Farrukh Habib of Faisalabad and Noureen Shaukat of Sahiwal would also not be part of the adjustment formula, sources added.
