LOWER KOHISTAN: The Kohistan project team held a progress review meeting with Deputy Commissioner Lower Kohistan, Zohaib Hayat, to share updates on the implementation of the Empowering Children as Climate Leaders to Reduce Vulnerabilities through Education and Action project.
The meeting reviewed key initiatives aimed at strengthening climate awareness among children and improving the capacity of schools and communities to prepare for climate-induced hazards.
Discussions covered progress in school safety, the establishment and activities of Green Clubs, climate-resilient infrastructure and disaster preparedness. These measures are designed to help create safer learning environments while equipping children with knowledge and practical skills to understand and respond to climate risks.

The project also promotes environmentally sustainable practices, including the 5Rs approach to waste management, composting and kitchen gardening. These activities encourage students to reduce waste, reuse materials, recycle resources and adopt more environmentally responsible habits in their schools and communities.
Green Clubs provide opportunities for students to participate in environmental awareness activities and develop leadership skills around climate action. Through practical initiatives, children can become active participants in promoting sustainability and encouraging positive environmental practices at home and in their communities.
School safety and climate-resilient infrastructure are also important components of the initiative, particularly in areas exposed to climate-related hazards. Improved preparedness and awareness can help schools and communities better understand risks and strengthen their ability to respond to emergencies.
The progress review provided an opportunity to discuss ongoing activities and reinforce the importance of coordinated efforts to advance climate education, disaster preparedness and environmental sustainability in Lower Kohistan.
The initiative highlights the role of education in building climate resilience, empowering young people to contribute to local solutions and helping communities prepare for the growing challenges associated with climate change.
