LOWER KOHISTAN: A joint monitoring team has visited two government primary schools in Lower Kohistan to review climate education, student awareness and school safety under a project aimed at helping children become climate leaders.
The visit was conducted by the Kohistan team alongside Aurangzeb Khalil, Deputy District Education Officer, Lower Kohistan, at Government Primary School (GPS) Jijal and GPS Chakia.
The activity was carried out under the project titled Empowering Children as Climate Leaders to Reduce Vulnerabilities through Education and Action.
During the visit, the team reviewed Green Club activities, students’ understanding of climate change, school infrastructure, safety arrangements and teaching practices.
The team also encouraged school heads and teachers to strengthen climate education, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and practical environmental activities to help students understand climate-related risks and ways to respond to them.
Green Clubs can provide students with opportunities to take part in activities such as tree plantation, waste management, environmental awareness campaigns and other local initiatives that promote environmental responsibility.
The monitoring visit highlighted the importance of integrating climate awareness and disaster preparedness into school education, particularly in vulnerable areas where communities may face natural hazards.
Strengthening climate-resilient schools can help protect students, improve preparedness and equip children with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to safer communities and a more sustainable future.
