FAISALABAD: Scientists from the University of Sydney, Australia, visited the Wheat Research Institute (WRI) at the Ayub Agricultural Research Institute (AARI), Faisalabad, to explore research cooperation and exchange knowledge on wheat improvement and grain quality.
Prof. Dr. Daniel K. Y. Tan and Dr. Rebecca J. Shephard visited WRI under the Australia Awards Fellowships Program, funded by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
During the visit, the Australian scientists toured the Physiology Laboratory and Cereal Technology Laboratory at WRI. They were briefed about ongoing research, laboratory facilities and scientific work aimed at improving wheat varieties and grain quality.
An interactive session was also held with WRI scientists. Researchers introduced their areas of expertise, shared details of their ongoing work and discussed possible areas for future cooperation.

The visit provided an opportunity to strengthen research links between WRI and the University of Sydney and promote scientific knowledge exchange.
Research collaboration in wheat science is increasingly important as farmers face changing weather conditions, rising temperatures, water stress and other challenges linked to climate change. Developing stronger wheat varieties and improving grain quality can help support food security and make agriculture more resilient to future climate risks.
The visit is expected to contribute to further cooperation between researchers in Pakistan and Australia in the fields of wheat research, agricultural innovation and climate-resilient food production.
