ABBOTTABAD: The Wildlife Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Abbottabad University of Science and Technology are exploring institutional cooperation to strengthen wildlife conservation, biodiversity research and evidence-based environmental management in the Hazara region.
The Conservator Wildlife Hazara Circle held a meeting with Dr Nazia Murtaza, Head of the Department of Zoology at Abbottabad University of Science and Technology, to discuss opportunities for joint collaboration between the department and the university.
The discussions focused on potential joint research covering wildlife populations, biodiversity, natural habitats, climate change and ecosystem services.
The two sides also discussed biodiversity monitoring, scientific data collection, student research and field studies. Such collaboration could help strengthen the scientific information available for wildlife management and conservation planning in the region.
The proposed cooperation is particularly relevant as changing climate conditions, habitat pressures and other environmental challenges can affect wildlife populations and ecosystems.
By connecting academic research with field-based wildlife management, the initiative could support better monitoring of species and habitats and help develop conservation measures based on reliable scientific evidence.
The collaboration also provides opportunities for students and researchers to gain practical field experience while contributing to biodiversity knowledge and conservation efforts in Hazara.
