KARACHI: A nationwide Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Badge Training of Trainers programme concluded at Gulistan-e-Scouts, Karachi, with 60 Scout leaders qualifying as DRM Badge Master Trainers.
The fourth and final training session focused on practical simulations and field-based learning, moving beyond classroom instruction. The newly trained Master Trainers shared disaster preparedness knowledge and skills with Boy Scouts from various educational institutions across Karachi.
Experts from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Pakistan Boy Scouts Association (PBSA) and Sindh Boy Scouts Association (SBSA) supervised the activities and assessed the trainers’ readiness to deliver disaster risk management education at the community level.
During a campfire held the previous evening, Scouts also presented creative skits and dramatic scenarios to communicate key disaster preparedness messages in an engaging and memorable way.
The concluding ceremony was attended by NDMA Executive Director M. Tanveer Piracha and Provincial Chief Commissioner of the Sindh Boy Scouts Association Justice (Retd.) Hasan Feroze. Other participants included PIA Boy Scouts Association Provincial Commissioner Shuaib Ahmed Dhari, SBSA Provincial Secretary Syed Akhtar Meer and UNICEF Pakistan Chief Field Officer Prem B. Chand.
The distinguished guests recognised the newly qualified Master Trainers and presented them with certificates and DRM badges.
The initiative was developed through collaboration among NDMA, UNICEF Pakistan and PBSA. It also builds on the institutional understanding between the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and PBSA, translating their shared commitment into structured training and practical community-level action.
The programme’s organisers acknowledged the on-ground coordination and management efforts of Zahid Mahboob, Director Youth Programme, and Liaqat Ali Awan, Director Adult Training at PBSA.
The initiative aims to expand disaster preparedness education through a trained network of Scout leaders, helping young people and communities build knowledge and skills to better prepare for emergencies and disasters.
