RAWALPINDI: The Youth & Volunteer Department of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has established a Climate Innovation Lab at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) under its Urban Resilience YOUR CAP Project, creating a new platform for young people to engage in climate action and community resilience.
The initiative brought together 45 students for an introductory session focused on climate action, innovation and meaningful youth participation in addressing environmental challenges.
Through the newly established lab, students will have opportunities to participate in upcoming PRCS activities, programmes and initiatives focused on climate resilience, youth engagement and community-based action.
The initiative aims to move beyond awareness by encouraging young people to develop practical ideas and innovative solutions that can help communities prepare for and respond to climate-related risks.
Youth participation is increasingly important as communities face growing challenges from extreme weather, urban vulnerabilities and other impacts associated with climate change. Platforms that connect students with practical resilience initiatives can help build local knowledge and strengthen community preparedness.
PRCS said the Climate Innovation Lab will serve as a platform for strengthening youth engagement and encouraging students to contribute ideas toward building more resilient and sustainable communities.
The initiative also provides students with an opportunity to connect academic learning with practical climate action, potentially helping nurture a new generation of young volunteers and climate innovators.
