LAHORE: The Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department has intensified its crackdown against wildlife crimes, challaning 18 suspects allegedly involved in the illegal trade of peafowls and unlawful hunting of quails across different districts of the province.
Authorities imposed a total of Rs800,000 in fines during various enforcement operations carried out against wildlife violations.
The department also seized 23 illegal quail netting gears used for trapping birds during operations in Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Jhelum, Jhang, Faisalabad, Attock and Bahawalnagar.
In Attock, wildlife officials recovered six live quails from an illegal wildlife trade operation and subsequently released the birds into their natural habitat.
Officials also registered FIRs against some of the alleged violators as part of the enforcement proceedings.
The ongoing operations reflect the department’s efforts to curb illegal hunting, trapping and wildlife trade while protecting native bird populations and biodiversity across Punjab.
Wildlife authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with enforcement teams and refrain from activities that threaten wild species, stressing that sustained public support is essential for effective wildlife conservation.
