CHINIOT: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Chiniot has intensified enforcement against banned single-use polythene bags, conducting an inspection drive aimed at reducing plastic pollution and promoting a cleaner environment across the district.
During the campaign, EPA teams conducted 18 inspections at various locations and confiscated approximately 327 kilograms of banned polythene bags.
The enforcement operation also resulted in the issuance of nine notices to violators, while 22 pledges were obtained as part of efforts to discourage the continued use and distribution of single-use plastic bags.
The EPA said the campaign is part of its ongoing efforts to curb plastic pollution and encourage citizens, traders and businesses to adopt environmentally friendly alternatives.
Single-use polythene bags pose a significant environmental challenge as they persist in the environment, contribute to litter and can obstruct drainage systems when improperly discarded. Reducing their use is therefore important for improving urban cleanliness and protecting local ecosystems.
The EPA has reiterated its commitment to strengthening enforcement against banned plastic bags and promoting public awareness about responsible waste management.
The department urged citizens and businesses to cooperate with enforcement teams and avoid the use of banned polythene bags, emphasizing that collective action is essential for creating cleaner and healthier communities.
