ISLAMABAD, September 5, 2026: The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) released 321,800 cusecs of water from various rim stations on Friday, while overall inflows were recorded at 338,500 cusecs, according to official data.
The figures indicate continued high water flows in Pakistan’s major rivers and reservoirs during the ongoing monsoon season.
According to data released by IRSA, the water level in the Indus River at Tarbela Dam stood at 1,550 feet, which was 148 feet above the reservoir’s dead level of 1,402 feet. Both inflow and outflow at Tarbela were recorded at 220,800 cusecs.
At Mangla Dam, the water level in the Jhelum River reached 1,221.35 feet, or 171.35 feet above its dead level of 1,050 feet. The inflow was recorded at 25,700 cusecs, while the outflow stood at 9,000 cusecs.
Downstream, water releases at key river stations remained substantial. The release at Kalabagh was recorded at 349,600 cusecs, while 213,200 cusecs were released at Taunsa, 135,200 cusecs at Guddu and 60,200 cusecs at Sukkur.
The Kabul River recorded a release of 30,100 cusecs at Nowshera, while the Chenab River at Marala recorded a flow of 37,200 cusecs.
The latest figures come as Pakistan continues to monitor river flows, reservoir levels and downstream water conditions amid the monsoon season. Authorities and relevant departments remain focused on managing water releases and monitoring areas vulnerable to flooding as river flows fluctuate.
The elevated reservoir levels also underscore the importance of continued monitoring and coordinated water management, particularly in downstream areas along major rivers.
