ISLAMABAD: As the world observes World Water Week, WWF-Pakistan is highlighting the importance of safe water, responsible water use and community-led environmental action through a youth-focused initiative.
Under the Youth-led Environmental Stewardship Initiative, WWF-Pakistan, in collaboration with GIFT University, trained around 100 students in water conservation, safe water practices and solid waste management.
The initiative also provided students with an opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom and engage directly with local communities.
As part of the field activities, participating students reached out to more than 350 community members across 13 villages, sharing knowledge on responsible water use and environmental protection while gathering insights into challenges faced at the community level.
The field engagement enabled students to gain practical experience in environmental stewardship and promoting positive behavioural change. It also strengthened links between young people and communities in addressing local environmental challenges.
WWF-Pakistan said initiatives that connect youth with communities can help develop a generation of informed environmental stewards capable of contributing to long-term environmental sustainability.
The programme highlights the importance of combining education, community participation and youth leadership to address growing challenges related to water security, pollution and sustainable resource management.
As pressure on water resources continues to increase, community-level awareness and responsible water use remain essential for building resilient communities and securing water resources for future generations.
