ISLAMABAD: Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Timothy Kane has emphasized the importance of community-led approaches in addressing climate change, saying that climate solutions are more effective when local communities are actively involved.
Speaking about Australia-supported initiatives in Pakistan, Kane highlighted ongoing research and programmes in rural Sindh aimed at helping communities develop more resilient livelihoods in the face of changing climate conditions.
“When communities lead, climate solutions work better,” the High Commissioner said, highlighting the importance of placing local communities at the centre of climate-related initiatives.
He said the projects were supporting communities in adapting agricultural practices while also exploring new economic opportunities to strengthen livelihoods.
“From adapting farming practices to exploring new economic opportunities, these projects are designed with communities at the center,” Kane said.
He added that Australia remained committed to partnerships in Pakistan that listen, learn and deliver real impact in response to climate challenges.
The Australian government has been supporting climate resilience and sustainable agriculture initiatives in Sindh, with a focus on helping rural populations adapt to changing weather patterns, strengthen livelihoods and improve food security.
The initiatives underscore the growing importance of community-based climate adaptation, particularly in vulnerable rural areas where climate change is increasingly affecting agriculture, water availability and household incomes.
