RAWALPINDI: Intermittent rain has continued in Rawalpindi since last night, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to remain on high alert under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir.
Managing Director WASA Rawalpindi Azizullah Khan said field teams and heavy machinery had been deployed at vulnerable and low-lying areas to ensure timely drainage of rainwater. He said he was personally supervising drainage operations in the field.
According to the MD, heavy machinery has been positioned at Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk Underpass, Murree Road, Dhok Khaba, Circular Road and Sadiqabad to respond immediately to any water accumulation.
He said Nullah Lai was also being continuously monitored, with the water level recorded at 10 feet.
The WASA chief directed field teams to remain fully alert and ensure immediate response in case of water accumulation at any location.
Citizens have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall and exercise caution in low-lying areas and near drains and waterways.
WASA officials said monitoring of the city’s drainage system would continue throughout the rainfall spell to minimise the risk of urban flooding and ensure uninterrupted civic services.
