KOT ADDU: The Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has intensified preparations for the upcoming smog season as part of the provincial government’s Pre-Smog Plan 2026, with a focus on ensuring strict compliance with environmental regulations by brick kilns.
Additional Director General (Operations), EPA Punjab, Dr Zafar Iqbal, visited Kot Addu as part of the government’s proactive anti-smog strategy and chaired an important meeting with representatives of the local Brick Kilns Association.
During the meeting, the EPA official emphasized the need for brick kiln owners and operators to strictly comply with environmental regulations and prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) ahead of the smog season.
The meeting focused on preventive measures to control emissions and reduce sources of air pollution before the onset of severe smog conditions.
Dr Zafar Iqbal conveyed a clear message that compliance with environmental laws and SOPs would be mandatory, stressing that preventive action is essential to protect public health and improve air quality.
The EPA Punjab has been undertaking pre-season measures to identify potential sources of emissions and strengthen enforcement mechanisms ahead of the winter smog period.
The visit to Kot Addu forms part of the province-wide efforts to ensure that industrial and commercial activities comply with environmental standards and contribute to reducing air pollution.
Authorities have urged relevant stakeholders to cooperate with the EPA and adopt environmentally responsible practices to help create cleaner air and a healthier environment across Punjab.
