KOHAT: A tree plantation drive was organized along the National Highway in Kohat on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day, with the aim of increasing green cover, reducing environmental pollution and raising public awareness about the importance of trees.
The plantation campaign was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Law Minister Aftab Alam Advocate, Kohat Division Commissioner Syed Mutasimullah Shah, Deputy Commissioner Kohat Muhammad Nawaz Wazir, Additional Deputy Commissioner Hamid Iqbal, Conservator of Forests Shahid Noor Khattak, DFO Kohat Wahid Zeeshan, SDFO Javed ur Rehman and other officials and personnel.
The Law Minister and officials from the district administration and Forest Department planted trees at various locations along the National Highway.
Speaking on the occasion, participants said the plantation drive should not remain limited to a one-day activity but should continue on a sustained basis to provide future generations with a clean, healthy and safe environment.
The speakers highlighted the vital role of trees in protecting the environment and said large-scale plantation was essential to address the challenges posed by population growth, climate change and environmental pollution.
They said plantation along national highways and other major roads would not only enhance the landscape but also provide travellers with a greener and more pleasant environment.
Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Mutasimullah Shah and Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nawaz Wazir urged citizens, along with government institutions, to actively participate in plantation initiatives. They said that if every individual planted at least one tree and ensured its proper care, the goal of making Pakistan greener could be achieved.
Forest Department officials briefed participants about suitable tree species, plantation sites and proper methods of caring for newly planted trees. They emphasized that planting a tree was only the first step, while its regular maintenance and protection were essential for ensuring its survival.
The Independence Day event also reflected a strong spirit of patriotism and national unity. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to making Pakistan stronger, prosperous, peaceful and greener.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for the security, prosperity, development and peace of Pakistan. Participants pledged to continue plantation and environmental protection activities to contribute to a greener and more sustainable Pakistan.
