SAHIWAL, Aug. 6: Commissioner Dr. Asif Tufail on Thursday inaugurated the Punjab government’s Tree Plantation Campaign, emphasizing that expanding green cover is essential to combating climate change, reducing air pollution, and safeguarding public health.
The campaign was formally launched with the plantation of a sapling on the lawn of the Commissioner’s Office, where the commissioner highlighted the environmental and ecological benefits of tree plantation.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Tufail said trees play a vital role in improving air quality, lowering temperatures, conserving biodiversity, and mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change. He urged every citizen to plant at least one tree and take responsibility for its care to ensure the success of the campaign.
“Plant trees and help beautify your city and country,” he said, adding that increasing tree cover has become an urgent necessity in the face of growing environmental and climate challenges.
The plantation drive was also attended by Additional Commissioner (Coordination) Dr. Saifullah Bhatti, Director Development and Finance Shafeeq Ahmed Dogar, Assistant Commissioner (General) Ghulam Hussain Bhatti, and other government officials, who joined the campaign by planting saplings.
The commissioner also appealed to the public to keep their surroundings clean and actively participate in environmental conservation efforts, stressing that protecting the environment is a collective responsibility essential for ensuring a healthier and more sustainable future for coming generations.
