KOHISTAN: A local community in Othor has taken a commendable step for wildlife conservation by safely handing over a female markhor kid to the Wildlife Department for protection.
The local residents handed the young animal to Deputy Ranger Wildlife Dawood, expressing their commitment to working with the department to protect wildlife and natural resources in the area.
The community also requested the formation of Village Conservation Committees (VCCs) in Othor to strengthen local participation in wildlife protection and improve the conservation of natural resources.
On the directions of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Wildlife Kohistan Division, Deputy Ranger Dawood thanked the community for its cooperation in helping save the valuable wild animal.
He assured the residents that necessary steps would be taken for the formation of VCCs in Othor, subject to the relevant departmental process.
Later, in accordance with the directions of the Wildlife Department Kohistan Division, the female markhor kid was safely released back into its natural habitat.
The incident highlights the important role local communities can play in protecting wildlife, particularly in areas where people live close to natural habitats. Community participation can strengthen conservation efforts and help protect wildlife for future generations.
