SWAT: The Bahrain Forest Department has foiled an alleged attempt to transport illegally obtained timber during an operation against timber smuggling.
According to the Forest Department, its team stopped and searched a suspicious Datsun vehicle during the operation. Five timber sleepers were reportedly recovered from concealed compartments of the vehicle.
The forest team arrested a man from Gabaral at the scene and took the vehicle and recovered timber into official custody.
The department said action against illegal tree cutting and timber smuggling would continue to protect forests and valuable timber resources. Legal proceedings would be initiated against those found involved in violations, according to the department.
The operation highlights the importance of field monitoring and enforcement in protecting forest resources and preventing the illegal movement of timber.
Forest protection is a shared responsibility.
