Balochistan universities receive Rs2.93bn in HEC funding support

ISLAMABAD, May 19 (ABC):Balochistan universities received Rs2.93 billion in financial support from Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) during fiscal year 2025-26, according to official documents reviewed by Wealth Pakistan. The funding includes recurring grants, supplementary allocations, and tenure-track support aimed at helping universities manage operational and academic requirements.

The HEC funding for Balochistan universities HEC reflects continued federal support for higher education institutions across the province, although overall allocations have gradually declined over the past three fiscal years.

What does the funding include?

The majority of the allocations consist of recurring grants provided to public sector universities for routine operational expenses, academic programs, faculty support, and administrative functions.

In FY2025-26, HEC recurring grants for universities in Balochistan stood at Rs2.88 billion. Additional support was also provided through supplementary funding and tenure-track allocations for faculty-related expenses.

According to the document, recurring grants remained the largest component of university funding in the province during the past three years.

  • Rs2.93 billion in FY2025-26

Several universities also recorded lower allocations compared with previous years.

Why do recurring grants matter?

Recurring grants are a key source of financial support for public universities in Pakistan. These funds are generally used to cover salaries, campus operations, academic activities, maintenance, and institutional administration.

For universities in Balochistan, recurring grants remain important because many institutions rely heavily on federal funding to meet operational requirements and sustain academic programs.

The document noted that the HEC has continued supporting universities in the province through institutional funding mechanisms designed to maintain higher education services and faculty support systems.

What happens next?

The funding allocations for FY2025-26 indicate that federal financial support for higher education institutions in Balochistan is continuing, although at slightly reduced levels compared with previous years.

Future allocations are expected to depend on broader higher education budgeting decisions, institutional requirements, and government funding priorities for public sector universities.
