CDA Hospital hosts international obesity seminar featuring live bariatric surgery

ISLAMABAD — CDA Hospital concluded a two-day International Obesity Seminar featuring a live bariatric surgery demonstration, bringing together more than 160 medical professionals from across Pakistan to discuss modern surgical and pharmacological therapies for obesity.

The event, organized on the directives of Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa and Member Administration Talat Mehmood Gondal, focused on strengthening obesity treatment through international collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and practical training.

Held under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Naeem Taj, Executive Director of CDA Hospital, the seminar gathered national and international experts to address evolving trends in obesity management. Discussions centered on advanced bariatric and metabolic surgical techniques, emerging anti-obesity medications, and the importance of multidisciplinary, long-term patient care.

Live bariatric surgery demonstration

A key highlight of the seminar was a live Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) surgery performed by Prof. Khaled Gawadat, President of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity. During the procedure, he provided a detailed step-by-step explanation of the surgical technique and outlined its clinical benefits.

The international faculty also included Prof. Antonio Torres of Spain, known for pioneering the SADI-S procedure, who shared insights on global advancements in bariatric surgery. Dr. Imran from the United Arab Emirates presented evidence-based strategies for comprehensive obesity management.

Focus on multidisciplinary treatment

The scientific program, organized by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naeem Taj, Dr. Syed Tanseer Asghar, and Dr. Sartaj Ali, featured expert lectures and case-based discussions. Sessions covered contemporary bariatric procedures such as SADI-S and RYGB, patient selection criteria, and strategies to prevent and manage surgical complications.

Medical management of obesity as a chronic disease was also discussed in detail. Dr. Farhan Ali and Dr. Sarwar Malik highlighted the integration of modern pharmacological therapies with lifestyle modification and structured follow-up care.

Participants concluded that effective obesity management requires a coordinated, evidence-based, and patient-centered approach.

CDA Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to continuous medical education and strengthening healthcare services through academic initiatives and international cooperation. Officials noted that since assuming charge in October 2024, Prof. Dr. Naeem Taj has promoted regular professional training programs aimed at enhancing clinical standards and service delivery at the institution.
