Islamabad: Muslim Hands, in collaboration with the All Pakistan Geoscientists Association (APGA), organized a seminar on hospital waste management to raise awareness about the safe, responsible and environmentally sustainable handling of healthcare waste.
The seminar brought together professionals, students, researchers and community members to discuss the importance of proper waste segregation, safe disposal practices and environmental protection within healthcare institutions.
Speakers highlighted that effective hospital waste management is essential for protecting healthcare workers, patients and surrounding communities from potential health hazards. They also emphasized that improper disposal of healthcare waste can contribute to environmental pollution and pose risks to soil and water resources.
The discussions focused on strengthening awareness about waste segregation at source, responsible disposal and the adoption of environmentally friendly practices in healthcare facilities. Participants also explored the importance of integrating climate-conscious approaches into healthcare waste management.
Rehan Tahir, Global Lead, Muslim Hands Climate Action, and Dr. Ayesh Azim participated as keynote speakers and highlighted the shared responsibility of healthcare institutions, professionals and communities in improving waste management practices.
Speakers stressed the need for greater coordination among relevant stakeholders to promote safer healthcare environments while reducing the environmental footprint of healthcare activities.
