Dakhni field compression project completed, boosting gas production capacity

Compression facilities installed at OGDCL’s Dakhni gas field to enhance production capacity and reliability.

Islamabad — The Dakhni Front End Compression Project for Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has been completed, marking a key upgrade to production infrastructure at one of Pakistan’s major natural gas fields, according to project partners.

The project was executed by Hong Kong HuiHua Global Corporation Ltd (HHGTL), a subsidiary of China Oil HBP Science and Technology Ltd, in collaboration with MHAA Corporation and in a joint venture with Etimaad Engineering (Pvt.) Ltd. Engineering consultancy services were provided by ILF Consulting Engineers.

Officials said the compression facilities were delivered within the agreed timeframe and in line with OGDCL’s technical and contractual requirements. The installation is designed to enhance reservoir performance and mitigate natural production decline at the Dakhni gas field.

Production capacity enhanced

According to project details, the newly installed compression system can optimise gas production of up to 28 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). The upgrade is expected to improve gas recovery efficiency, strengthen field deliverability, and support sustained output over the longer term.

Project partners said the completion reflects the successful integration of engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, carried out in compliance with international health, safety, and environmental standards.

Ongoing and past projects

HHGTL and MHAA, in joint venture with AJCL, are also currently executing the OGDCL ENAR Compression Project, building on experience gained from the Dakhni project. Separately, HHGTL previously delivered a 98 MMSCFD LPG processing plant at the Nashpa Field in 2018, a project cited by officials as a milestone in large-scale gas processing infrastructure.

Industry observers noted that the Dakhni project highlights continued investment in upgrading domestic gas fields at a time when Pakistan is seeking to maximise indigenous hydrocarbon resources and improve energy security.

Project stakeholders said the collaboration between OGDCL, ILF, and the joint venture partners underscores the role of technical partnerships in strengthening upstream oil and gas operations across the country.
