ISLAMABAD, August 17, 2026: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain held a high-level meeting with Egyptian Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Ehab Mohamed Abdelhamid Hassan, with discussions focusing on expanding bilateral cooperation in agriculture, food security and modern agricultural technologies.
The federal minister said Pakistan highly values its longstanding and brotherly relations with Egypt and appreciated Egypt’s progress in modern agriculture, efficient water management, climate-resilient farming and agricultural technology.
Rana Tanveer Hussain expressed particular interest in benefiting from Egypt’s technical expertise to improve the production and quality of cotton in Pakistan. He said Egypt’s experience in developing improved cotton varieties, quality seeds, modern production techniques, crop management and value addition could prove highly beneficial for Pakistan.
The minister also proposed greater collaboration between Pakistani and Egyptian agricultural research institutions, including expert exchanges, joint research projects, training programmes and the sharing of modern agricultural practices.
He emphasized the potential for cooperation in water-efficient irrigation, seed development, biotechnology, climate-smart agriculture, agricultural machinery, livestock, horticulture and agricultural research.
Rana Tanveer said the government was focusing on the adoption of modern technologies, quality agricultural inputs and stronger linkages between research and extension services to increase agricultural productivity, reduce production costs and improve farmers’ incomes.
Egyptian Ambassador Dr Ehab Mohamed Abdelhamid Hassan reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening agricultural cooperation with Pakistan. He said relevant Egyptian institutions would be encouraged to explore opportunities for collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The ambassador briefed the minister on Egypt’s experience in cotton production, irrigation, agricultural research and farming in water-scarce regions, while welcoming greater interaction and exchange of expertise between Pakistani and Egyptian experts and research institutions.
The two sides agreed to maintain close coordination and identify practical areas of cooperation that could deliver tangible benefits for farmers, agricultural productivity and food security in both countries.
