A recent study has shown that high blood sugar can impair brain health in individuals who do not have diabetes.
While the connection between blood sugar and brain health has been well-documented in people with diabetes, this is the first research to indicate that high blood sugar can also affect the brain in people without the condition.
The study, titled “Glycemic Control, Cardiovascular Health Variations, and Brain Function Associations in Healthy Individuals,” was recently published in the journal Neurobiology of Aging.
The study examined 146 healthy adults aged 18 and above. Researchers analyzed brain activity using electrocardiogram (ECG) readings, MRI scans, and heart variability rates to assess brain function.
Professor Dr. Chen, Canada Research Chair in Neuroimaging of Aging and Biomedical Physics, emphasized that the results highlight the importance of controlling blood sugar through a healthy diet and exercise. This is beneficial not only for your body but also for your brain.
