Karachi: Keeping in view the threat of heat waves in Karachi, administration and medical staff of government hospitals have been directed to be alert and special heat stroke units have been installed in some hospitals.
Residents of Karachi are fed up with the intense heat that has been going on for days, with more than a hundred incidents of heatstroke reported in the last few days.
Dr Irfan Siddiqui, who is in charge of heat stroke management, reported that Jinnah Hospital has 80 cases and Civil Hospital more than 50 cases.
Cases of gastroenteritis are also on the rise due to rising temperatures. Relief camps have been set up across the city to provide free cold water and drinks to residents.
The Meteorological Department announced that the weather in Karachi will be hot and humid for the next 24 hours and the temperature is expected to rise further from today. The maximum temperature is expected to be between 40 and 42 degrees. Today’s temperature in Karachi is 31 degrees Celsius, partly cloudy and humid.
According to the Department of Meteorology, heat intensity of up to 39 degrees Celsius will be felt with a humidity level of 78%. Residents are advised to take precautions due to the heat wave.
