This part of the Museum Insights column is about a celadon glaze porcelain vase with the Chinese symbol ji, which means luck. Precious items such as diamonds were found under the sea thousands of years later at the Sino-foreign exchange point. This Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) collection is on display at China’s National Archives of Publications and Culture and shows the history of exchanges along the Maritime Silk Road. The Chinese symbol of the house is engraved on the bottom of the cup. This character is said to represent the desire of the Chinese people to live a good and peaceful life. This reminds the Chinese of their ancestors who explored the world along the Maritime Silk Road thousands of years ago.
