ABBOTTABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has inaugurated the newly developed 702-kanal Abbottabad Park, constructed at a reported cost of Rs. 1.47 billion, offering residents and visitors a major new space for recreation, fitness and outdoor activities.
The large-scale recreational facility has been designed to provide families, children and visitors with a range of opportunities for leisure and physical activity.
The park features six walking tracks, 30 gazebos, a 365-metre zip line, a cricket ground, a dedicated children’s play area, a mosque and parking facilities.
A significant component of the project is its focus on greenery and environmental sustainability. According to the information shared by the authorities, around 7,000 of the planned 13,000 trees have already been planted, while no trees were cut during the construction of the park.
Once fully developed, the extensive plantation is expected to enhance the park’s ecological value while providing additional green space for the growing urban population.
The park is expected to benefit nearly 1.9 million people, creating a new public destination where families can spend time outdoors, children can play and residents can engage in walking, sports and other recreational activities.
Urban green spaces can play an important role in promoting healthier lifestyles by encouraging physical activity while also providing opportunities for people to connect with nature.
The development of Abbottabad Park represents a major addition to the recreational infrastructure of Hazara and is expected to strengthen the city’s appeal as a destination for both residents and visitors.
With continued plantation and proper maintenance, the park could also become an important example of how urban recreation and green development can be combined to create healthier and more environmentally friendly cities.
