Organisers said the initiative focused on planting indigenous and climate-resilient saplings in areas along the Islamabad Expressway where green cover has declined. The effort is aimed at improving air quality, supporting biodiversity and contributing to carbon reduction in the capital.

Focus on coordinated action

Officials said the drive reflects the importance of collaboration between public institutions and private sector organisations in tackling environmental issues. Participation from the Capital Development Authority and environmental bodies highlighted a coordinated approach to urban greening.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Musadik Malik said tree plantation is essential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting long-term environmental stability. He noted that further plantation efforts are planned, alongside measures to ensure the protection and maintenance of newly planted trees.

Long-term sustainability efforts

Zong representatives said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to integrate sustainability into business operations. Nabila Yazdani said the company aims to promote environmental responsibility while encouraging employees and communities to adopt sustainable practices.

The company added that it is investing in energy-efficient solutions and environmentally responsible technologies to support Pakistan’s climate goals. Officials said continued efforts in afforestation and awareness can contribute to building a more resilient and environmentally sustainable future.
