Ehsas-e-Shajar plantation drive held at University of Swat under KP tree campaign

Swat: The University of Swat hosted an Ehsas-e-Shajar plantation drive at its Charbagh campus in partnership with the Swat Forest Division and district authorities, supporting a provincial campaign to plant one million trees.

The drive brought together students, faculty members and local officials, highlighting efforts to expand green cover and raise awareness about environmental conservation. The campaign is part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s broader strategy to address climate change and improve ecological sustainability.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hassan Sher participated in the activity by planting a Deodar sapling, marking the launch of the drive at the university. Organisers said the initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices within the academic community.

Awareness and participation

The event included awareness sessions for students and staff, focusing on the importance of tree plantation in improving air quality, conserving biodiversity and mitigating the effects of climate change. Officials encouraged active participation to foster a sense of environmental responsibility.

Technical supervision was provided by officials from the Swat Forest Division and the office of the Assistant Commissioner Charbagh, ensuring proper plantation methods and long-term care of the saplings.

Continued plantation efforts

University officials said additional plantation drives will be organised across different campuses and public areas in Swat to contribute to the province-wide target. The initiative aims to engage communities and institutions in collective environmental action.

Authorities said such campaigns play a key role in promoting sustainable development and strengthening efforts to preserve the natural environment in the region.
