ABBOTTABAD: Young volunteers have planted around 150 saplings in Abbottabad under the Pakistan Youth Parliament Summer Internship Programme 2026, promoting environmental awareness, community participation and tree plantation.
The plantation drive brought together young people to translate environmental awareness into practical action, highlighting the role of youth-led initiatives in supporting a greener and more sustainable Pakistan.
Despite changing weather conditions and limited team participation, the volunteers continued with the activity, demonstrating their commitment to environmental protection and community engagement.

Youth Participation In Environmental Protection
The initiative aimed to encourage young people to play an active role in protecting the environment while engaging local communities in efforts to increase tree cover.
Tree plantation can improve local environments by providing shade, supporting biodiversity, helping protect soil and absorbing carbon dioxide as trees grow. However, the long-term benefits depend on selecting suitable species, providing adequate care and ensuring the survival of newly planted saplings.
Youth-led activities such as this can also strengthen environmental awareness and encourage greater public participation in conservation efforts.
Ensuring Long-Term Environmental Impact
The plantation drive highlights how community participation and youth engagement can support local environmental initiatives. While planting saplings is an important first step, regular watering, protection and monitoring will be essential to help the trees become established.
The initiative under the Pakistan Youth Parliament Summer Internship Programme 2026 underscores the importance of empowering young people to contribute to environmental sustainability through practical action.
Each successfully established tree can become a lasting contribution to a healthier environment, demonstrating how collective efforts can help build a greener future for Pakistan.
