Action Against Smoke-Emitting Vehicles

CTO Farhan Aslam has directed officials to fine and impound vehicles emitting excessive smoke, as well as those operating without valid fitness certificates, in accordance with applicable procedures.

The campaign will also target vehicles spreading dust, sand and other debris on roads, which can contribute to poor air quality and create safety hazards for commuters.

Public Awareness Campaign Launched

Alongside enforcement measures, the traffic police is conducting awareness campaigns at bus stands and transport terminals to educate drivers, transport operators and citizens about the harmful effects of smog and air pollution.

A survey report cited by the traffic police estimates that smoke-emitting vehicles account for between 40 and 83 per cent of smog. However, further details about the survey’s methodology and geographical coverage were not provided.

Farhan Aslam said smog and environmental pollution could contribute to respiratory illnesses and other health problems. He added that the traffic police was committed to supporting efforts to provide citizens with cleaner air and a healthier environment.

Enforcement Aimed At Improving Air Quality

Vehicle emissions remain an important concern in efforts to address urban air pollution. Regular inspections, proper vehicle maintenance, compliance with fitness standards and measures to prevent dust emissions can help reduce transport-related pollution.

The impact of the crackdown will depend on consistent enforcement, regular vehicle checks and cooperation from transport operators and the public.

Through inspections and awareness initiatives, the Rawalpindi City Traffic Police aims to encourage compliance with environmental standards and contribute to efforts to combat smog and protect public health.
