RAWALPINDI: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi has accelerated the installation of safety nets on sewer manholes across the city to improve public safety during the ongoing monsoon season, following directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Managing Director WASA Azizullah Khan said the agency is installing safety nets on 25 to 30 manholes daily, adding that the campaign will be completed as quickly as possible to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of residents during heavy rains.
He said WASA remains committed to protecting citizens, emphasizing that public safety is the agency’s top priority during the monsoon season.
The managing director also announced that anti-dengue activities have been intensified at WASA field offices, tube wells, and other operational facilities under the Punjab government’s instructions. The measures are aimed at eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites and reducing the risk of dengue outbreaks.
Azizullah Khan urged citizens to immediately report stagnant rainwater or any other standing water to WASA so that timely preventive action could be taken.
He stressed that dengue prevention is a shared responsibility and called on the public to help maintain a clean environment, saying collective efforts are essential to ensuring a safer and healthier Rawalpindi.
