As thousands of fanatical Hindus celebrated the inauguration ceremony of the Ram Mandir, built on the site of the demolished Babri Mosque in Ayodhya, a viral image showing the deity Ram atop Dubai’s Burj Khalifa has been circulating on social media, sparking a major online debate.
An image showing the illuminated Burj Khalifa with the Hindu god Ram dressed as a sage and captioned “Jai Shri Ram” has garnered over two million views.
Many individuals shared the photo and claimed its authenticity, while others questioned its legitimacy. Users expressed respect and debated whether the image was edited or real.
However, a reverse Google image search revealed that the Burj Khalifa was captured in a similar light, but without any projection of the Ram.
Despite claims that it was not photographed but digitally altered, fact-checking revealed the image to be a fabrication. Burj Khalifa’s official social media accounts, where festive occasions are usually shared, did not show any posts with similar projections.
This incident mirrored a similar one in April 2023, when a viral image turned out to be a fake. Meanwhile, the doors of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir opened to the public a day after the dedication and attracted a large number of devotees.
