HARIPUR: The Forest Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, RECP Pakistan, and the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Haripur jointly launched a tree plantation campaign at the university on Monday, reaffirming their commitment to environmental conservation and climate resilience.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Zia ur Rahman, Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental Sciences.
The event was addressed by Divisional Forest Officer Haripur Aqeel Abbasi, Inspector General of Forests Syed Mehmood Nasir, and RECP Pakistan Chief Executive Officer Dr. Irshad Ramay. The speakers highlighted the importance of tree plantation, environmental awareness, and collective efforts to tackle climate change.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abid Fareed attended the ceremony as the chief guest and delivered the keynote address. He appreciated the collaboration between the Forest Department, RECP Pakistan, and the University of Haripur, saying such partnerships play an important role in promoting a greener and more sustainable future.
During the ceremony, shields were presented to distinguished guests in recognition of their contributions. A group photograph was also taken with guests, faculty members, students, and participants.
The event concluded with a tree plantation activity on the university campus, where guests and participants planted saplings to symbolize their shared commitment to a greener Pakistan. Refreshments were served at the end of the programme.
The organizers acknowledged the efforts of Prof. Azhar Rashid, Prof. Alia Naz, Dr. Ayaz Khan, Dr. Wisal Shah, Dr. Zia ur Rahman, Ms. Misbah Khalil, and PhD, MPhil, and BS research students of the Department of Environmental Sciences for successfully organizing the event.
The University of Haripur said it will continue working with partner organizations to promote environmental conservation and encourage students and local communities to actively participate in sustainability initiatives.
