The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a prize fund of $11.25 million for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The winner of the ninth edition held in the West Indies and the United States will receive at least $2.45 million, the highest in the history of the tournament.
The 20-team ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will span 28 days and nine venues and will be the biggest event yet. The runner-up will win a whopping $1.28 million, while the semifinalists will each pocket $787,500.
Teams that fail to advance to the second round will receive $382,500 each, while teams that finish ninth and 12th will receive $247,500. The 13th to 20th place teams will each receive $225,000.
In addition, each team will receive an additional $31,154 for each game won, excluding semifinals and finals.
The Super 8 tournament will start with 40 matches in the first round. The semi-finals will be played in Trinidad, Tobago and Guyana, with the grand final scheduled for the historic Kensington Oval in Barbados.
ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice said: “This event is historic in many ways, so it’s only fitting that the prize money for the players reflects this. “Hundreds of millions of fans around the world will be entertained by players who we hope will be out of this world.”
The announcement is a new chapter in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, reflecting the popularity and financial investment in the shortest form of the game. As cricket fans around the world eagerly await the tournament, the 2024 edition promises to be a landmark event in the history of the sport.
