T20 World Cup 2024: Afghanistan starts strong with victory over Uganda

Afghanistan showed their cricketing prowess by defeating Uganda by 125 runs in Match 5 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The victory set a strong tone for Afghanistan’s campaign in the tournament.

Electing to bat first, Afghanistan posted a total of 183 for the loss of 5 wickets. The innings was powered by a good partnership between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadra.

Kurbaz played 76 runs while Zadran added 70 runs. The 154-run partnership laid a solid foundation and put Uganda under huge pressure from the start.

In reply, Uganda’s batting line-up crumbled under a persistent Afghan bowling attack and could only score 58 runs.

Robinson top scorer for Uganda with 14 goals followed by Riazat Ali Shah with 11 goals. Surprisingly, nine Ugandan players failed to reach double figures, showing the dominance of the Afghan bowlers.

The standout player with the ball was Fazalhaq Farooqui, who turned in a career-best performance. Farooqui’s brilliant bowling saw him take 5 wickets for just 9 runs in his 4th over.

His incredible accuracy and ability to take advantage of situations baffled the Ugandan batsmen. Farooqui also showed his fielding skills by taking 5 catches and contributing to Uganda’s collapse.
