South African captain Temba Bavuma has expressed his confidence in his team’s prospects for the Champions Trophy, stating that this time they aim to take a step further and win the tournament. He emphasized utilizing the young players to their advantage.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Bavuma said that they would assess the conditions before the match and, if needed, would include both spinners in the playing XI.
He acknowledged the absence of Anrich Nortje as a setback but believed that Corbin Bosch’s inclusion would benefit the team, calling him a valuable player.
The South African skipper reiterated his team’s goal of winning the tournament, despite having relatively inexperienced players. He also highlighted the diverse skill sets of their bowlers and the advantage that could bring.
Bavuma further added that if their bowlers found the right rhythm, it would be a big advantage for the team. He acknowledged Pakistan’s strength in home conditions and believed that playing a home series against them earlier would be beneficial.
The Tri-Nation Series clash between South Africa and New Zealand is set to take place tomorrow at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
