Business leaders, environmental experts and development practitioners stress collaboration for a climate-resilient Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, July 30: The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), in collaboration with the Rural Development Foundation (RDF), organized a consultative meeting on climate change, water resources and global warming to encourage dialogue on the growing environmental challenges facing Pakistan.
The session was chaired by RCCI President Usman Shaukat and Senior Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi. Vice President Fahad Barlas, members of the RCCI Executive Committee, representatives of the business community and other stakeholders also attended.
The meeting featured presentations by Brig. (R) Muhammad Aslam Khan, President of RDF; M. Ibraheem, Director Projects at RDF; Wasif Bashir, Senior Program Officer; Aleeza Waheed, Program Officer; Sara Mehmood, Manager at WWF-Pakistan; and Talat Mehmood Awan, Chairman of the RCCI Standing Committee on Climate Change.
Speakers highlighted the growing impacts of climate change on Pakistan, emphasizing the need for stronger climate resilience, sustainable water resource management and environmental conservation. They stressed that coordinated efforts involving government institutions, the private sector, civil society and local communities are essential to address the country’s environmental challenges.
Participants also discussed the business community’s role in promoting green initiatives, supporting climate-smart policies and investing in sustainable practices that contribute to environmental protection and economic resilience.
Addressing the gathering, RCCI representatives reaffirmed the chamber’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with development organizations and environmental stakeholders to promote sustainable development and climate action.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to enhance cooperation, encourage awareness and support practical initiatives aimed at building a cleaner, greener and more climate-resilient Pakistan.
